Tūroa Ski Area, Mt Ruapehu

Mighty in stature, wide-open in feel. Featuring New Zealand’s highest lifted point and biggest vertical descent at 2,369ft (722m). Tūroa loyalists rejoice in a landscape that resembles frozen waves, lasting well into the Spring. Tūroa’s slopestyle parks offer world-class terrain and features, with a clear path of progression.

Our operations on Mt Ruapehu are at mercy of the elements, and the climatic effects of being atop the North Island’s peak, unprotected from any direction, add a sense of drama but also magic to our slopes.  The terrain is naturally formed by volcanic terrain, making it vast and diverse, and better flowing. Made by nature, enhanced by our expert team. This guarantees variety, creativity, and excitement. Pick your line, in 20 different ways, there is no chance to get bored.

Lodging Near Tūroa Ski Area

Located in the central North Island, an easy drive from the main centres of Auckland (5-hour drive) and Wellington (4-hour drive), getting far away and exploring Mt Ruapehu’s unique volcanic terrain, is closer than you think. Neighbouring towns of National Park and Ohakune (25-minutes' drive from Whakapapa and Tūroa, respectively), and the larger town, Taupō (1 hr 30 minutes drive north from Whakapapa), provide a great day base to explore from.

It's the best in Australia and NZ.
